NEW ART PURCHASE: DEEZ NUTS, Mark Drew at China Heights Gallery, 2012

AHD ARTIST Mark Drew recently had an exhibition at China Heights Gallery in Sydney. 

"Mark Drew is old school in Sydney’s lowbrow art scene; a co-founder of China Heights gallery, an self-trained artist and graphic designer, and a lover of ‘90s hip hop. This show brings together childhood obsessions into a zine and a set of large-scale canvases that mash up the Peanuts cartoon strip with his favourite lyrical cuts.

The works show Peanuts comics with lyrics from Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, N.W.A, Gang Starr, Public Enemy and more, as dialogue. The combination replicates the obsessions of a younger Mark Drew perfectly, as well as encouraging a possible anima connection within the spirit of the subjects."

Of course, we could not resist and bought a piece, 'It Ain't No Fun (If The Homies Can't Have None)' - one of my all-time favourite Snoop Dogg songs...
